Kinson Curriculum


At Kinson Primary Academy School our curriculum  supports our Vision that; Together we will: aspire, believe, learn and achieve.


We aim to develop the Kinson High Five throughout our curriculum promoting key values which will support children for the future. These are;

  • Challenge ourselves
  • Be proud of ourselves and our school.


At Kinson we have developed a curriculum which is relevant and meaningful to the children as individuals. We help the children to engage with the curriculum by offering them enrichment opportunities. This allows children to experience first hand elements of the curriculum, ensuring that learning is rich and engaging.  


A strong feature of our curriculum is our sense of community.  In our school community we use groups such as the School Council to actively display Kinson values.  We enable children to articulate their views and make reasoned decisions.  We value the contribution of the wider community and teach children about different faiths and cultures. We plan for parents to be part of their Child's learning journey by offering regular opportunities each half term to join their children and share the experiences of their learning.


To ensure that our children are prepared for their future, developing the basic skills of reading, writing and mathematics are at the core of our curriculum.  Alongside this, nurturing our young learners to become independent, problem solvers and build self confidence is part of our schools philosophy. 


Early Years

'Reception children get off to a good start. Children's communication, literacy and mathematics skills prepare them well for learning in Year 1.'

We focus on 7 areas of learning: Communication and language, physical development, personal, social and emotional Development, literacy, mathematics, knowledge and understanding of the world and expressive arts and design. 

In Foundation Stage pupils are encouraged to take a very independent approach to learning.


Years 1-6

In years 1-6 children follow the National Curriculum. Within the national curriculum learning skills are identified in the subjects of  English, Maths, Science, History, Geography, Art & Design, Computing, Design & Technology, Music, Religious Education, Physical Education and Modern Foreign Languages (Yr 3-6). The curriculum offers links to be made between subjects. Very often learning will involve more than one skill and more than one subject. This ensures that learning is purposeful and engaging. 


Personal Development

At Kinson Primary we highly value the importance of promoting children's personal, social and emotional development. We have a whole school approach and follow JIGSAW. Jigsaw holds children at its heart and its cohesive vision helps children understand and value who they are and how they fit and contribute to the world.

Here at Kinson Primary School we follow the Letters and Sounds Phonics programme.

Children are grouped for their learning according to their particular needs within the different phonic phases.
